Services and Programs at OAB

Blindness and severe vision loss affect those of all genders, races, geographic areas, and socioeconomic classes. However, the concerns and needs of families when first confronted with blindness or severe vision loss can generally be predicted. These include:

1. A need to understand the visual effects caused by the individual’s vision loss
2. A need by family members to know the best way(s) to help the blind family member with his/her new life situation
3. A need by the family including the blind person to understand the normal psychological adjustment process associated with vision loss
4. A need to get information about available services and how to access them
5. Finding tools and methods that maintain or restore abilities to perform activities of daily living.

The OAB activities and classes share experiences of individuals and families who have lived with these concerns and found many answers to share. We are a non-profit organization made up of Blind and Sighted Volunteers to help others in the Blind Community. We provide social, educational, and recreational activities for our members

The OAB provide classes on adjustment to Blindness and resources available to blind and visually impaired individuals. Some classes offer tips on meal preparation, housekeeping, and personal care. We have classes to promote independent living skills on an as-needed basis in a classroom environment. Most of the training is done at our meeting place during classes, and not at member's homes.

The Ogden Association of the Blind has an activity most months of the year that allows its members to attend outdoor activities, plays, and other activities that are of interest to its members.
